Wednesday Workshops!

The whole Year 2 team hopes you can join us on a Wednesday morning, if possible, until 9:15am to share in your child's learning. There will be a range of table top activities running each week if you are able to pop in.

Homework

Homework is due in on Thursday.

Set: 18.01.19

Due: 07.02.19

Homework over the next few weeks is a design project. We would like the children to design and build their own version of a house from the period of the Great Fire of London. Please let us know if you need any support with this and we wlll happily help.

Each child will have their individual spellings to learn. Please try to learn these words over the week. The spellings will be tested on Thursday so please ensure their green spelling book is in their book bag.

Reading

Please read with your child every day for 10 minutes and sign in their Monkey Reading Record.

Please play phonics games with your child to help retain the different sounds. There are free games and resources on:

We also have books set on Bug Club which have been tailored to each individual child. We are in the process of providing each child with their login which will be coming home shortly.

We will also be continuing…

•to try and beat our scores in Big Maths each week!
•daily CLIC maths sessions on core number skills to help with fluency.

Our Science topic this half term is ‘Animals including Humans.’ We will be learning how animals are born and how they grow and change as they get older. We will explore what animals need to survive and stay healthy. We will investigate why we need to et a healthy diet and why it is important to keep clean and exercise.

In Computing we will be learning to use scratch to begin to explore basic algorithms and programming.

In Topic we will be exploring the period of the Great Fire of London. We will be learning about how the fire started and the reasons for it spreading quickly. We will be learning about Samuel Pepys and his diary entries.

In PE we will be learning to develop our skills in throwing and catching. We will develop our skills in passing and retrieving balls whilst moving.

In RE we will be exploring how beginnings and endings are celebrated in different religions. We will learn how different religions celebrate and welcome new babies. We will explore how different religions mark the end of one year and welcome the next.

Our PSHCE unit is ‘Dreams and Goals.’ We will be exploring ideas for our future and what aspirations we have. We will think about what barriers we may come across and how to overcome them. We will explore ways in which we are resilient.

In Art  we will be creating silhouettes of London during 1666 whilst the fire was burning. We will be creating our own Tudor houses to create a replica of London during this period.

Every day, we take on different reading challenges in our BIG Reading sessions. We have different characters who remind us how to be an effective reader: how to retrieve information, explore a text, analyse features and detect clues. Each week your child will be given a target for their reading during their guided reading session. Please help us to reach these targets through questioning when reading at home.

We will continue to try to beat our score in Big Maths! We do Big Maths every Friday and some of us are now trying to answer 15 questions in 20 seconds!

Please encourage your children to challenge themselves and practise their learning at home by visiting:
