Firm Foundations

In reading we will continue with our daily ‘Big Reading’ sessions to make us superstar readers! The children really enjoy working with the characters Expi, Rex, Dood and Ansa.  We will continue working on our ‘Mini Missions’ to make us superstar readers!

In Maths we will be learning:

• Times Tables – dedicated sessions to help learn tables up to 12x12

Problem solving across a range of areas to apply our skills.

Developing more efficient ways to multiply and divide.

Learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.

We will also be trying very hard to beat our ‘Big Maths’ scores each week, who will get 10 out of 10 next

English and Topic

Our topic this term is Lights, Cameras...Action!  We will be using a wide range of skills to create our own films and animations and explore the history and culture of film.  In English we will be learning about famous playwrights from Ancient Greece and exploring Greek mythology and its impact on film and drama today.  We will draw inspiration from the famous director Steven Spielberg and learn all about the life and culture of Ancient Greece through a series of different film projects.

In Science this term, we will explore the environment and learn about the plants and animals that grow in different biomes. We will become nature documentarists and present our science findings through film.

Please make sure you have your correct PE kit in every day, you may need jogging bottoms too as the weather starts to change.  We are going to be using our team skills to develop our abilities in invasion games including hockey this spring term. We will also be developing our gymnastics skills include ways to balance and travel and perform sequences.

Science Week

We have had such an exciting week this week as part of British Science Week.  We ended last week with a visit to Barnwell School to take part in their Science and Technology Fair and began the new week with a visit from Professor Bubbleworks.

Throughout the week, we have using our scientific know-how to investigate FORCES, including an experiment to check the weight and mass of different balls and observe whether their mass had any bearing on how fast they fell from a height.

We also enjoyed 'The Great Peartree Boat Race', where we learnt about water resistance and how to design a streamlined boat to beat all others!
